Howard Ward Associates was founded in 1977 to focus predominantly on investigating and reporting on existing structures. Today, whilst that discipline remains an important part of our business, the heart of our strategy is mainstream structural design.

We offer a full range of structural design services across all sectors and we have extensive experience of both new-build and refurbishment/alteration schemes. This means that we can both optimise a clean sheet design as well as exercising our professional judgment when assessing existing structures (when original plans are often not available).

We also understand how important it is to deliver excellent service as well as efficient engineering design. During feasibility, excellent service means actively listening and understanding clients’ requirements which can then be translated into deliverable structural solutions. During construction it means maintaining open and timely dialogue with our client and all members of the project team to ensure the build phase runs smoothly.

Our preference will always be to become involved in a project as early as possible.  We often find that our input into the initial conceptual design process can result in both cost savings and improvements to the scheme as a whole. We will always aim to innovate where appropriate, but only when there are clear benefits for our clients.

Our clients range from experienced developers to end-users of structures. We also work closely with contractors as part of integrated design & build teams. Although our primary focus is with mainstream structural design, we are also more than happy to assist with large scale domestic structural issues.
